Several areas exhibiting the most promise for fundamental and practical studies of chitin, chitosan and their derivatives are considered. Much attention of researchers is given to medico-biological problems, phytoimmynity of cultivated plants, latest physical and chemical methods for analyzing these biopolymers, as well as to numerous aspects of practical application of chitin and its modifications.

About 150 papers by scientists engaged in chitinology from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Slovakia and Portugal are included into this collection. It is intended for researchers and for the practical workers in different fields of agriculture, medicine, cosmetics, food and fish-processing industries.
